Coastal House
A calm summer house where sea light moves through the rooms all day.
Overview
Set on an Aegean plot shaped by wind and salt, this house was reconsidered around a family's summer rhythm. The aim was not a showpiece holiday home but a calm retreat — one inhabited at every hour, from morning coffee to the cool of the evening.
Existing volumes were simplified; walls were opened so that light and air could pass through the house. Transitions between spaces were softened until the line between inside and out became almost imperceptible.
Design Intention
The intention was not to imitate the sea but to keep it company. Warm, lime-based surfaces and natural timber turn the bright glare outside into a soft calm within. Each room was considered around a particular moment of the day — waking, gathering, resting.

Material Palette
The palette came from the shore itself: lime plaster, bleached oak, travertine, and linen. Colours stay within the tones of sand, salt, and shadow; no surface competes for attention.
- Lime plaster
- Bleached oak
- Travertine
- Linen and cotton
- Handmade ceramic
Spatial Experience
Entering the house, you feel the coolness first; then a wide, shaded hall where the eye slows. As the day moves, light travels across the floor and leaves a warm tone on the walls by late afternoon. Stone underfoot, linen to the touch, and the distant break of a wave are the true materials of the space.
Details
Recessed niches were left for books and gathered objects from the sea. The kitchen counter is a single piece of travertine; the cabinet pulls are cast brass. These details, which soften and patinate with time, allow the house to grow more beautiful as it is lived in.
